2. Born in 1924 in China’s Zhejiang Province, Cha moved to Hong Kong in the 1940s. His first novel in the Wuxia genre, The Book and The Sword (1955), was an instant success.
3. He went on to write 14 popular novels that inspired films, TV series, games and other creative productions. The Return of the Condor Heroes was adapted for a film and TV series that were popular worldwide.
4. Cha’s works were also widely translated. He sold more than 100 million copies worldwide. Cha was also a respected journalist and founder of Hong Kong’s Ming Pao Newspaper. Cha died in hospital on October 30, 2018, after a long illness, aged 94.
