Starting around 7000 B.C., and for the next four thousand years, much of the Northern Hemisphere experienced temperatures warmer than at present.

1.demi- 是来自法语，意为“半”，始用于中世纪英语的前缀 demi [a half of a measure or unit] ，如demi-angels准天使, demi-lions半人半狮, demi-horses半人半马 demi-god 半神, demi-lune 半月（型），demi-tint 晕色， 介于深浅色之间， demi-fixed 半固定的 。从中可以看出，demi的意思也有一些“实际上，某种程度上，几乎”的意思，还有“欠缺的”意思。比如demigod，不算真正的神，也不算真正的人。
2.hemi- 是来自希腊语的前缀 Greek [a half of something] 这个前缀比semi用的少一些，更常在如化学，生物，解剖学中出现。它表示“半”的意思多数是以一个纵向轴对称的划分开的，如hemisphere半球, hemiplegia 偏瘫
3.semi- 是来自拉丁语的前缀指“半”，最早出现在英语当中的。最开始出现时即为“半”的意思，如semicircular, 但是后来延伸出其他意思如“不完全的，难满足要求”的意思，semi-abstract , 半圆好理解，半抽象是什么鬼？permanent好理解，那么semipermanent 又是什么鬼？慢慢的演变，semi 有了“实际上，某种程度上”的意思。
