新题讲解之“新技能”

Describe a new skill you want to develop. You should say: what the skill is; how you would develop it; whether it would be difficult to develop; and explain why you would like to develop this skill. A skill I wanna develop is to use Excel professionally. I am sure a lot of people would agree that Excel is a godsend when it comes to creating spreadsheets, and it’s used extensively by almost all offices in all sorts of industries around the world. However, so far, we haven’t been taught much about Excel in university. It wouldn’t be easy to learn everything about it in a short span of time, because there are like millions of embedded functions. Besides, the use of some of the functions requires rather sophisticated knowledge in statistics, so I don’t think learning it would be as easy as pie. Gladly, I’ve found a systematic way. There is a whole course on Coursera that goes through each of the main categories and key functions. The tutorial videos can be viewed conveniently online at my own pace. I would very much like to develop proficient skills in Excel because, first of all, it will be an immediate help with my upcoming assignment, which is a quantitative project that requires us to analyze a huge amount of data. I am sure my newly developed skill will help enhance effectiveness, and draw better looking spreadsheets and charts. In addition, that’s gonna be a great addition on my CV. When my future work or maybe an interview requires me to handle complex data, I’ll be able to get on with it immediately.
