The Sydney Symphony Orchestra, one of the best Orchestras in the world, was founded in 1932 as the National Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra in Australia. Since its opening in 1973, the Sydney Opera House has been its home concert hall. The orchestra's chief conductor is David Robertson who succeeded Vladimir Ashkenazy at the beginning of 2014.
Rory Jeffes has been in the position of Managing Director since 2008. He was previously Director of External Relations for three years. His background in business and not-for-profit sectors is complemented by his academic background in music and a deep interest in the arts and culture.
