Through my journalism, I’ve been working in and around health since the early 2000s when, as a news reporter, I covered the emergence of SARS and various strains of avian influenza. Therefore, my relationship with this area is bookended by diseases and our reaction as a society to the uncertainty and sometimes fear that they bring. But, of course, there’s a beautiful side to health which, these days, is often oversimplified into words like ‘wellness’ and ‘wellbeing’. Andrea Firley, who co-founded YOUME is doing something different. She’s bringing together food, exercise and lifestyle in one, holistic cycle, and working with private clients as well as large corporates. We’ve known each other for close to ten years and, in that time, I’ve seen how her commitment to health and China has evolved into a business model that is not only interesting, but meaningful, too.
