Wall Street Journal: In China, campus clubs dedicated to the art of waking up — in which early risers to rouse their sleepier classmates – have sprung up. Wu Chunyan, a sophomore at southern China's Fuzhou University, rolled out of bed one morning in the room she shares with half a dozen roommates. She washed her face, cleared her throat and at 6:30 dialed a string of numbers on her cellphone. She says good morning and adds she's with the wake-up club. A male student on the other end replied "Good morning", the pair hung up. Her mission completed, Ms. Wu collected her books and headed out to begin her day. Ms. Wu is part of a "wake-up association," one of many such clubs that have sprouted across Chinese campuses in the past few years. Every day, she takes part in a phone-tree system in which volunteers make wake-up calls to their more sluggish classmates.
