A university student was assaulted by a campus patrol group in Shandong Province over an embrace they deemed an inappropriate public display of affection.
The altercation sparked after the student at Binzhou University was spotted sharing a hug with his girlfriend by a group of seven student guards charged with patrolling the campus grounds.
The student, surnamed Wang ,said he and his girlfriend, surnamed Wu, were approached by the "oversight team" members and told to show identification.
Wang and Wu both refused.
Things escalated and the group teamed up on Wang.
Photos showed he suffered minor scrapes and injuries. He also complained of losing a watch and glasses during the incident.
A spokesman for the university said so far three students have been punished for their involvement.
