介绍:
Instagram is the most damaging social media platform when it comes to young people's mental health. This is according to a new research study by the Royal Society for Public Health in the U.K. The photo-sharing app, which is owned by Facebook and has 700 million users worldwide, is considered the social media platform most likely to cause young people to feel depressed, anxious and lonely. In a survey of almost 1,500 Britons aged 14 to 24, the study found that young people were most likely to associate Instagram with negative attributes and low self-esteem, resulting in poor body image and lack of sleep. Snapchat, the ephemeral photo messaging app, is conspired the second worst, and most likely to leave users feeling bullied or left out by their peers; Hence scored well for enabling self-expression and self-identity when assessed against 14 statements relating to health and well-being. Accordingly users who spent more than two hours a day on social media are more likely to report poor mental health and symptoms of anxiety and depression, which could lead to "FOMO" — aka the fear of missing out. Meanwhile Instagram says that it remains dedicated to keeping the platform a "safe and supportive place" for users, adding that it is working closely with experts to enhance the app to provide mental health support. Talking points Why are these platforms considered the worst for users? – Both platforms are very image-focused and it appears they may be driving feelings of inadequacy and anxiety in mostly young people. It's not all bad news right? - Yes it wasn't all "dislikes" for these sites though. All the services have good marks for encouraging self-expression and self-identity. And survey takers said they found emotional support and connected to online communities and support networks. - Also despite the negative report, scientists however added that for social media platforms like these, because they have an almost universal reach and unprecedented ability to connect people from all walks of life, they holds the potential to wield a mighty power as a positive catalyst for good mental health 完整节目可以通过下载china plus客户端收听!
