Topic:Alibaba data shows where the 'singles' are (by LNJ) Taking advantage of big data technology, Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba recently offered a map of single people's locations. It shows that the majority of singles in Beijing are IT professionals and college students who mainly live in the city's northwest and college areas, including Zhongguancun, China's Silicon Valley, and around well-known universities. Residents within the 2nd Ring Road are mostly married. Alibaba's data also found that Solana, Beijing Zoo, the Summer Palace, the Temple of Heaven, the Palace Museum and Century Golden Resources Shopping Mall are the top dating sites favored by single people in Beijing. Alibaba's map also covers four other cities -- Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hangzhou and Chengdu. In Shanghai, lovers flock to People's Park, the "match-making center of the universe." Like Beijing, Hangzhou's software parks and universities are also home to many single people. Alibaba said one exception was Xixi Park, where 60 percent of employees are married, and only about 30 percent remain single, and they are mostly from Tmall and the new retailing technology department. Alibaba said its data seems to support the view that online shopping could help put an end to the single status. Alibaba said the more members shop online, the better their credit standing is, and the more they interact with other shoppers. Otherwise, they could be more likely to remain single. Talking points: 1. Really? Shopping helps putting an end to the single status?
