Well, tonight's show is about "dream". Everyone has dreams, but the dream we are gonna talk about is not like the dream you and I dream while we are sleeping, this dream could be yours and could be mine, and the dream's got a name-----The American dream.
The American Dream is a national ethos( [ˈiˌθɑs]民族精神)of the United States, a set of ideals in which freedom includes the opportunity for prosperity(繁荣，成功) and success, and an upward(向上的) social mobility(流动; 机动性) achieved through hard work. In the definition of the American Dream it says "life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement" regardless of social class or circumstances(环境，境遇) of birth.
The idea of the American Dream is rooted(根深蒂固的) in the United States Declaration of Independence (独立宣言) that written" We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”(很著名的一段，希望大家好好品味，有兴趣可以背诵！)
Ever since 1776 when the united states of America was first founded(创建), each and every generation(时代，一代人) firmly(坚定地) believed that “ if they hang around a barbershop for long enough sooner or later they are gonna get themselves a hair cut”. They can make everything out of nothing by their bare hand(徒手) with their hard work. For more than two hundred years, the "American Dream" has inspired(启发) the world's younger people came to this land to create their own fortune(财富), the United States has thus became the cradle(摇篮) of the world's most successful people.
In conclusion, although everyone's got a different dream, but, the American dream generally includes "democracy(民主), freedom, and human rights(人权)". "Democracy" is a political(政治的) system, which is the soil(土地) of the American dream; People will have to ”day dream”if no such good system exists in their country, any good dream shall be in vain(徒劳). And "Freedom" is the realization of the American dream, respect for individuals(个人) and the "human-oriented" concept(以人为本的理念); Everyone can have their own dream, can realize their dreams however they like; Without freedom of speech, the press, association, religious belief, and freedom of communication, the way to achieve your dream shall be a dead end. And “Human rights" is the content(内容) of the American dream, it includes the right of life, education, work and free migration(迁徙), the right to vote(投票) and to be elected(被选举) and criticize(批评) the government and the right to pursue(追求) happiness
So guys, for your own “American dream”, if you want your listening and speaking skills improved, practice really hard.
