The AFC Asian Cup(亚足联亚洲杯) is an international association football tournament run by the Asian Football Confederation(AFC)(亚洲足联). It is the second oldest continental football championship in the world after Copa América(美洲杯). The winning team becomes the champion of Asia and automatically qualifies for the FIFA Confederations Cup.(国际足球联合会杯)
Australia joined the Asian confederation in 2007, and is hosting the Asian Cup finals in 2015.
The 2015 AFC Asian Cup is the 16th edition of the AFC Asian Cup, It is currently being held in Australia from 9 to 31 January 2015. The winner of the tournament will earn the right to participate in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup(国际足联联合会杯), which is to be hosted by Russia(俄罗斯).
Australia was chosen as the host(主办国) on 5 January 2011, after being the sole(唯一) bidder(申办方) for the right to host the 2015 tournament. The matches are being played in five different stadiums across five cities: Sydney(悉尼), Melbourne(墨尔本),Brisbane(布里斯班), Canberra(堪培拉) and Newcastle(纽卡斯尔). It is the first time that Australia has hosted the tournament, and it is also the first time the Asian Cup has been held outside the continent(洲) of Asia. As hosts, Australia automatically(自动的) qualified for the final tournament, while the remaining(余下的) 15 finalists were decided through a qualification(合格的) process, featuring 44 teams, from February 2013 to March 2014.
The tournament is broadcast live(直播) by around 80 TV channels(频道) covering the whole world. 800 million people were expected to watch matches, with the tournament reaching a potential TV audience of more than 2.5 billion people.
