The Model Who Dreams in Code
I’m a model, actress and computer programmer. I worked with Prada, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and did the Victoria’s Secret Show. It’s a type of acting, definitely, and I like the travel. I like just going on the set and going wild and having fun.
I’ve been programming longer than I’ve been modeling. Well, a couple years ago I started making the Apps. Since then I’ve had a couple Apps in the App Store.
This is the Matchmaker App. The main part of this App is, when you turn on the matchmaker, it’ll let me know when there’s someone nearby who is compatible. You could walk down the street and you could be passing by that perfect person for love, friendship or business, and you would never know. With this App, it’ll let you know.
When I’m doing it I “zone out.” I tend to stay up really late working on coding, and sometimes I dream in code.
My first coding experiences were in, maybe, middle school. I realized that I could make games on my TI-89 graphing calculator. I was probably the only one doing this. Maybe some boys were doing this, too.
I think people put too much stock in beauty, and there’re some people, who maybe do programming and some other things that aren’t getting the attention that they deserve because they’re not a Victoria’s Secret model.
Why can’t I be a programmer? Why can’t people like me be a programmer? Why shouldn’t everyone learn how to code? Why, if I’m a programmer, does that mean that I’m a geek? Like they say, “model is a geek.”
People don’t believe someone like me use lower-level languages or make robots or any of the number of things that I’ve done in my programming career. It’s strange because I’m around pretty girls all the time, models, and a lot of them are intelligent…intelligent young ladies.
Programming isn’t exactly the sort of thing people want to talk about, so if I’m on a modeling shoot, and I start talking about for loops, they’ll be, like, OK, let’s get back to work.
