The Little Match-girl 卖火柴的小女孩 It was a very cold winter. Snow was falling hard. It was New Year’s Eve. In the street a poor little girl was walking without shoes. She had a bundle of matches on her apron. She wanted to sell the matches to get some money. But on the whole day по one bought her matches. She was very cold and very hungry. She was afraid to go home. Her father would beat her if she hadn ‘t sold out the matches. Moreover her home was as cold as the street. She sat down in a corner between two houses. She took out one match and rubbed it on the wall. The match gave a warm fire. She warmed her hands around the fire. But very soon the fire went out. She lighted another match. This time through the fire she could see that there was a table in the room of the house. On the table there was a lot of delicious food: fish, meat, fruit and a large roast goose. It seemed to her that the goose was walking towards her. At this moment the fire went out again. There was cold and darkness. Then she rubbed a match the third time. This time she saw a beautiful Christmas tree in front of her. When she was reaching her hands out for the tree , the match went out again. The little girl, again, rubbed a match on the wall. She had the warm fire again. In the light of the fire she saw her dead grandmother. She cried: “Dear grandma, I am so cold and hungry. Please take me with you.” She lighted the whole bundle of matches. She didn't want the matches to go out. How she wanted to be with her grandmother! In the brightness of the fire, her grandmother took her in her arms. They flew to the heaven together. There they would not suffer from cold and hunger. The next morning when the new year sun rose, people found the poor little girl dead in the street corner. In her hands there was the bundle of matches that had gone out.
