This student made a couple of mistakes with word and sentences stress (numbers 1-3). Typically, the last word in a phrase will be stress, but in each of these cases, he stressed the 2nd to the last word. Additionally, in #4, the word “pretend” should be stressed on the second syllable, but he stressed both syllables equally.
He also made a number of pronunciation errors. He mispronounced vowels /uh, ei, eh/ as /ae/ and mispronounced /ae/ as /ah/ a couple of times (numbers 5-10). Because he used the /ae/ vowel incorrectly and inconsistently, he needs continued practice reading out loud with frequent feedback and guidance.
He made a few other errors, especially with the vowel /iy/ which he had difficulty stressing.
1. There are LITTLE fish.
2. There are BIG fish

5. Ugly- uh/ae
6. Lunch – uh/ae
7. Tank – ae/ah
8. And – ae/ah
9. Like – ai/ae
10. Wet – eh/ae

12. Seal – iy/eh
