Netizens: Spring Festival Gala Mascot "Too Ugly"!

The annual Spring Festival Gala has always been an important part of the Chinese Lunar New Year celebration. Naturally, every move organizers make becomes the center of attention.
On Thursday, the official mascot for the 2016 gala was finally revealed. It was the sketch of a monkey in the form of an ink painting, designed by Chinese contemporary artist Han Meilin. His previous works included the "Fuwa" mascots for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
The gala producer named the monkey "Kang Kang", which means "healthy" in Chinese.
Unfortunately, the 3D version of the mascot image failed to leave a good impression, as many netizens called it "too ugly".
In a vote by Weibo, 58.5 percent of the respondents like the ink painting version of the monkey, while only 14.4 percent like the front view of the 3D version. In addition, 12.5 percent want to "change its clothes", supposedly meaning they don't like the colors.
