Teachers are taking pay cuts of thousands of pounds to go part time and work for free from home because they cannot cope with their weekly burden, a union leader has claimed.
A growing number are choosing to work four days so they can spend the fifth marking and planning lessons in their own time, said Mary Bousted. It follows warnings that the education of pupils is suffering because staff are kept so busy with paperwork.
'Teachers are going part-time to manage their full time workload,' said Association of Teachers and Lecturers general secretary Ms.Bousted. 'Lots of people told me about that and that's happening more and more.'
