Tree Planting Day The Tree Planting Day started in the US in 1872. It was this man’s idea . His name is J. Sterling Morton . He wanted people to plant a lot of trees and take care of them . Many people liked Mr. Morton’s idea , so the first Tree Planting Day started on April 10th ,1872 . In different countries, Tree Planting Days are on different days. In India, it is on July 1 st. In France , every March is the Tree Planting Month , and March 31st is the Tree Planting Day . In England , from November 6th to November 12th is the Tree Planting Week . And in Japan , it has the Tree Planting Day and the Tree Planting Week in every spring . The first Tree Planting Day in China was on March 12th ,1979 . Around the day , Chinese people , especially students go outdoors to plant trees . And now tree-planting in the spring has become a bit of tradition for Chinese . Families and lovers want to plant their own trees . The trees mean love and happiness to them . And tree-planting is a meaningful way to celebrate wedding or birthday . For those living in the big cities , Tree Planting Day is an excellent time for a trip . People often take the planting as a nice short tour back to nature with their family members . After their field work together ,they can have a picnic with their family members . And in the United States , Tree Planting Day is also called Arbor Day . National Arbor Day is celebrated on the last Friday in April . Each state celebrates its own Arbor Day according to the best planting time . It is a holiday, so some stores and schools are closed . On Arbor Day, people are encouraged to care for their natural environment. It's a time for people to get their hands in the dirt and plant trees, bushes and plants. And there are many other activities , such as , fairs , music performances and open days in garden centers .
