A miser and his gold💰守财奴的金子

1. A miser sold all that he had and bought a lump of gold, which he buried in a hole in the ground by the side of an old wall and went to look at daily. One of his workmen observed his frequent visits to the spot and decided to watch his movements. 2. He soon discovered the secret of the hidden treasure, and digging down, came to the lump of gold, and stole it. The Miser, on his next visit, found the hole empty and began to tear his hair and to make loud lamentations. 3. A neighbor, seeing him overcome with grief and learning the cause, said, “Pray do not grieve so; but go and take a stone,and place it in the hole, and fancy that the gold is still lying there. It will do you quite the same service;for when the gold was there, you had it not, as you did not make theslightest use of it.” 一个守财奴卖掉了他所有的东西，买了一块金子，把它埋在一堵老墙边的地洞里，每天都去看。他的一个工人观察到他经常去这个地方，于是决定监视他的行动。 他很快就发现了宝藏的秘密，并向下挖掘，发现了那块金子，把它偷走了。守财奴在下一次查看时，发现洞里空空如也，于是开始撕扯自己的头发，大声哀嚎。 一个邻居看到他悲痛欲绝，知道了原因，就说：“请你不要这样悲伤，去拿一块石头，把它放在洞里，幻想金子还在那里。这对你有同样的用处（一样让你开心）；因为当金子在那里的时候，你就不曾拥有它，因为你没有利用分毫。”
