Once there was a hare. He was very proud.
“I am the fastest runner in the world,” said the hare. “Can anybody beat me?”
“I don’t think I can.” said the little dog.
“Neither can I.” said the little cat.
“Neither can I.” said the little duck.
“Neither can I.” said the little chicken.
“Aha….. No one can beat me! “said the hare. He was very pleased.
“Who knows? I bet I can!”said the tortoise.
“ Are you joking?” asked the hare.
“No, I’m not.” said the tortoise, “ Let’s have a race, shall we? ”
“All right,” said the hare. “Three, two, one, go!”
“Go, go, go, tortoise!” said the little cat and dog.
“Come on, tortoise!”said the little duck and chicken.
The hare ran up the hill.
The tortoise ran up the hill.
The hare ran down the hill.
The tortoise ran down the hill.
They both ran on and on.
“Oh, wait! Where is the tortoise?.” asked the hare.
“He is far too slow. I will be the winner.” thought the hare.
Now the hare was sleepy.
“I will have some sleep.” said the hare. Then the hare went to sleep.
The tortoise ran on and on and on. He ran past the hare. And now he ran past the line.
“Well down, tortoise!”
“Good job, tortoise!” said the other animals.
Now the hare woke up.
“Oh, no!” said the hare, “Now I am the loser!”
