介绍:
For many living in cities, the daily commute on public transport, especially on the often overcrowded metro system, can be a rather boring and soul-sucking experience. Want to enliven your tedious subway ride? Then, how about some poems? Recently, commuters in Shanghai and Guangzhou have found some of their metro lines and tram cars plastered with beautiful bilingual poetry placards everywhere--on the walls, doors, seats and even on the carriage handles. This is part of an on-going cultural campaign dubbed "Poetry on the Metro", sponsored by the British Council in five Chinese cities. However, in this day and age, where poetry is usually regarded as an untrendy art form, how will this nationwide campaign win hearts and souls? To find out, our reporter Yin Xiuqi talks to Nick Marchand, Director of Arts and Culture for China and Northeast Asia at the British Council. He is also the brain behind this cultural event.
