问题:Why do most Chinese live in apartments rather than houses? I’m pretty certain that if we had a choice, most of us would prefer to live in comfortable and spacious houses rather than the extremely inconvenient apartments. I mean, nobody wants to climb the stairs or having to take elevators every day, and I’m sure everyone would love to have a backyard in their homes where they can play and relax in. The thing is that the land price in the cities just went through the roof over the last thirty years or so due to the population boom, and it’s pretty much impossible for the common folks to afford a house, especially in the urban areas. It’s still very common to see houses in the rural areas, but as for the people in the cities, it would take them a huge sum of fortune to buy a house. And that’s why everyone is stuck in an apartment.
