HARRY and the Lady Next Door

（一）THE PARTY Harry was a white dog with black spots. 哈利是一条白色但身上有黑色斑点的狗 He loved all his neighbors, all except one. 除了一个，他热爱所有的邻居 He did not love the lady next door. 他不喜欢隔壁的女士 The lady next door sang. 那位女士在隔壁唱歌 She sang high and loud. 她唱的音调高而且声音大 When she sang, Harry’s ears hurt. 当她唱歌的时候，哈利的耳朵就受折磨 She sang higher than the peanut whistle. 她唱的比小商人的叫卖声都高 When she sang, the peanut man put his hands over his ears. 当她唱歌的时候，那个小商人会用他的手捂着自己的耳朵 She sang louder than the siren on the fire engine. 她唱的比消防车的警笛声都大 When she sang, the firemen put their hands over their ears. 当她唱的时候，消防队员会用他们的手捂着他们的耳朵。 She sang higher and louder than the cats sang. 她唱的声音比猫叫都高都大 When she sang, the cats ran away. 当她唱的时候，猫都跑开了 Harry tried everything to make her stop. 哈利试图用一切办法让她停下来 He howled under her window. 他在她的窗户下吼叫 His friends howled too. 他的朋友也吼叫 But it did not do any good. 但是没有任何改善 The lady next door went on singing. 那位女士在隔壁继续唱歌 She sang higher and louder than ever. 她唱的比以往都更高更大 One day Harry’s family gave a party. 一天哈利的家人举办了一场晚会。 They invited the lady next door 他们邀请住在隔壁的女士 She came with her music 她带着她的音乐来了 When she started to sing 当她开始唱歌的时候 Harry almost bit her leg 哈利几乎咬了她的腿 But he bit the leg of the piano instead 但是他咬住钢琴的腿替代 The family sent Harry out of the room 家人把哈利送出房间 “You are a bad dog, ”they said “你是一条糟糕的狗。”他们说 Harry just wagged his tail 哈利只是摇摇他的尾巴 As he walked to the door some people said 当他走到门口有人说 “Poor Harry.” “可怜的哈利。” But others whispered 但是也有人低声说 “The lucky dog!” “幸运的哈利。” When Harry pushed the door open the wind blew in. 当哈利推开门风吹进来 It blew the pages of music off the piano. 它吹掉钢琴音乐的页面 They blew all around the room. 它们在房间里被吹的到处都是。 Everyone tried to catch the music but no one could. 每个人都试图抓住乐谱但是没有一个人做到 The pages blew out the door and into the garden. 那些纸页被吹出房间，吹进花园里 They blew over the fence and up into the trees. 它们被吹过篱笆，吹到了树上 Harry caught some of the pages but he did not bring them back. 哈利抓住一些纸页但是他没有把它们送回去 He ran away with them. 他带着它们跑开了 🌸🌸 （二）HARRY'S FIRET TRY He ran until he came to a quiet spot. 他一直跑到一个僻静的地方 He dropped the music and lay down. 他放下乐谱躺了下来 Soon he fell asleep. 很快他就睡着了 In a little while, 过了一会儿 Something woke Harry up. 有东西叫醒了哈利 All around him were cows mooing. 他周围都是奶牛在叫 They mooed very low notes. 他们叫的声音非常低 Harry listened . 哈利听着 He though the cows made beautiful music. 他觉得奶牛制作了美妙的音乐 He had never heard anything so soft and low. 他从来没有听过什么声音如此的柔软和低缓 He wished the lady next door would sing like the cows. 他希望住在隔壁的女士能唱出像奶牛的歌 Suddenly Harry had an idea. 突然哈利有了一个主意 He rounded up all the cows . 他让所有的奶牛都聚拢起来 He barked at their heels. 他对着他们的后脚叫 Down the road they went . 他们沿着这条路走 Harry barked and the cows mooed. 哈利叫着，那些奶牛叫着 They ran on and on. 他们一直走啊走 They ran down the main street of town. 他们顺着小镇的主要街道走 They passed the school, the library and the fire house. 他们穿过学校，图书馆和消防局 When they came to Harry’s house the lady was still singing. 当他们来到哈利的家时那个女士依旧在唱歌 Harry ran ahead and stopped the cows. 哈利跑到了前面阻止了奶牛 They went on mooing. 他们接着叫 They mooed and mooed and mooed. 他们叫啊叫啊 They all mooed soft and low. 他们的叫声都柔软和低缓 The cows mooed for a long time but it did not do any good. 这些奶牛叫了很长时间但是没有任何改善 The lady next door went on singing. 那位女士继续在隔壁唱歌 She sang higher and louder than ever. 她唱的比以往更高更大 Harry’s family called the man who owned the cows . 哈利的家人叫来这些奶牛的主人 He came and took them home . 他来带他们回家 That night, Harry slept in the dog house. 那天晚上，哈利睡在狗屋 🌷🌷🌷 （三）HARRY'S SECOND TRY The next day the lady next door sang some more . 第二天那位女士在隔壁唱歌 Harry’s ears hurt more than ever. 哈利的耳朵比以前更受折磨 He went for a walk. 他出去散步。 After he had walked for a long time he heard a wonderful sound . 他走了很长一段时间后听到一个美妙的声音 “Oompah! Oompah! Oompah! Oompah!” “嗡吧嗡吧的声音。” It was low and lovely. 它是低缓可爱的 Then Harry saw what it was . 很快哈利就看到了是什么 It was the big horn in the Firemen’s Band. 那是消防乐队里的大号角 The big horn was even softer and lower than cows mooing. 这个大号角比奶牛叫的叫声更柔软和低缓 Harry walked along listening. 哈利沿着路听 He wished the lady next door would sing like the big horn. 他希望隔壁的那位女士能唱的像这个大号角一样 Then he saw the leader of the band . 很快他看到了这个乐队的指挥者 The leader threw his stick into the air. 那个指挥者把指挥棒扔到空气中 Harry watcher. 哈利看到了 Suddenly he had an idea . 他突然有了一个主意 The next time the stick went into the air, 下一次那个指挥棒被扔到空气中的时候 Harry caught it. 哈利抓住了它 Harry ran in front of the band . 哈利跑到乐队的前面 The leader ran after Harry-and the band ran after the leader. 那个乐队的指挥者跑在哈利的后面，与此同时那个乐队跑在指挥者的后面 Soon the leader was all out of breath. 很快那个指挥者就累的上气不接下气 He stopped running. 他停止奔跑 But the band ran after Harry. 但是整个乐队跑在哈利的后面 The men played as they ran. 这群人在他们奔跑的时候演奏 Harry led them all down the main street of town. 哈利带着他们沿着小镇的主街道跑 They passed the school, the library and the fire house. 他们穿过学校，图书馆和消防局。 Harry stopped the band in front of the lady’s house . 哈利让那个乐队在那位女士的房子前停下来 She was still singing. 她依然在唱歌 The big horn player played even softer and lower than before. 那个大的号角演奏者演奏出比以前更柔软和低缓的声音 He blew and blew and blew right under her window. 他在女士的窗下吹啊吹。 But it did not do any good . 但是没有任何好转 The lady next door went on singing. 那位女士在隔壁继续唱着 She sang higher and louder than ever. 她唱的比以前更高更大 When the leader got there he had Harry’s family with him. 当那位指挥者和哈利的家人一起赶到那儿时 Harry gave the stick back. 哈利归还了指挥棒 That night, he slept in the dog house again. 那天晚上，他又睡在那间狗房里 🌻🌻🌻🌻 （四）The contest A few nights after that, 几天之后 the family took harry to the park. 哈利的家人带他去公园 They were going to hear the Firemen’s Band . 他们去听消防乐队的演奏 The family knew that Harry liked the big horn. 这家人知道哈利喜欢听大的号角 They got to the park and sat down. 他们去公园并坐了下来 A light shone on the stage . 一盏灯照在舞台上 The people were quiet. 人们安静下来 They waited for the music to begin. 他们等待音乐开始 Harry closed his eyes and listened. 哈利闭上眼睛去听 He waited for the big horn. 他等大的号角声 He waited for the soft, low notes . 他等那个柔软的低缓的声音 But the low notes never came . 但是那个低音一直没有出现 Instead , a man came out . 替代它的是一个男人出来 “Good evening, friends,” he said. “朋友们晚上好。”他说 “The band will not play tonight. “今天晚上这个乐队不会再演奏了 The big horn player is all out of breath. 大号角演奏者都是上气不接下气 Instead, we shall have a singing contest. 相反我们应该有一场歌唱比赛 And here are the ladies who will sing.” 刚好这里有一位女士愿意唱。” Everyone clapped when the ladies came out. 那位女士出来时每个人都热烈鼓掌 On the end of the line was the lady next door. 队伍的尽头是那位住在隔壁的女士 Harry took one look and ran off. 哈利看了一眼跑开了 He was almost out of the park when he heard something. 当他听到一些声音后他几乎跑出了公园 “Blurp Blurp Blurp Blurp .” “一种声音响起” It was low and beautiful. 那是低缓和美妙的 Harry stopped and listened . 哈利停下来去听 It was even softer and lower than the cows and the big horn. 那比奶牛和大号角的声音都柔软和低缓 He wished the lady next door would sing like this. 他希望那位住在隔壁的女士能唱的像这个一样 Then he saw where the sound came from. 很快他就看到声音发出的地方 It came from inside a watering can. 它来自一个喷壶 Suddenly Harry had an idea. 哈利突然有了一个主意 He took the handle of the can in his mouth. 他把喷壶的把手放在他的嘴里 Then he ran with it. 然后他带着它跑走了 When he got back to the bandstand , 当他回到音乐台 He walked quietly up the stairs. 他悄悄的走上台阶 The lady next door was singing. 那位住在隔壁的女士正在唱歌 Harry put the watering can on the floor behind her. 哈利把喷壶放到她身后的地板上 Soon the lady sang a very high note . 很快这位女士唱到一个很高的音 Then something happened . 然后有事发生了 Two frogs jumped out of the can. 两个青蛙从喷壶里跳出来 One jumped on the lady’s head. 一个跳到女士的头上 The other jumped on her shoulder. 另一个跳到她的肩膀 The other ladies in the contest shrieked and ran from the stage. 另一位女士在比赛中尖叫着从舞台跑开 But the lady next door went on singing. 但是这位住在隔壁的女士一直在唱歌 She sang higher and louder than ever. 她唱的比以前更高更大 When she finished her song, Everyone shouted ,”Hooray!” The judges whispered together. Then one of them spoke. “Ladies and gentlemen,” he said . “The other ladies in the contest have all gone home So the lady next door wins the singing contest! She is a brave lady. She wins First Prize. It means she can study music in a far-off country for a long time !” Everyone clapped and clapped. Harry barked and barked. He was the happiest of all. In the middle of all the fuss the frogs hopped home. Soon the time came for the lady next door to go away. Harry went to the ship with the family to see her off . “Good-bye! Good-bye!” everyone shouted. Harry wagged his tail. The lady next door started to sing a good-bye song. But no one ever heard her. Just as she sang the first note the ship blew its foghorn. It was a deep, low, wonderful sound . As the ship moved away from the dock, Other boats blew their foghorns too. Harry thought it was the most beautiful good-bye song he had ever heard.
