Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for being so kind to be at your radio and hearing what you are hearing now form the team only for the top one of the new oriental Beijing. Today anchor Daniel will be at your service. Alright. Now, I mean literally now the only thing that you guys are waiting for must be the right-around-the-corner chinese new year. Funny thing, when I was a kid, I used to confuse the ”new year” which is based on the solar calendar and the chinese new year, which is based on the lunar calendar together. So how was I supposed to tell the difference? Well, if you get money in your pocket form all around that night, then it would be your favorite chinese new year. Which is my favorite one. alright, when the spring festival is coming, people generally do hope that their new year would be a Godspeed year, therefore, there are things that people would do for they are believed helpful according to chinese traditions. Well, it may not be scientifically verified even doesn’t make any sense, still, just like people believe in God and go to church, chinese people follow these rules strictly, so today, lets take a look, what are the dos and donts. First thing first, you better not sweep on the first day of the spring festival. If you have to sweep on that day somehow, you should sweep from outdoors to indoors, not the other way around. Because if you sweep from the inside out, according to chinese tradition, it would be considered a denial of your wealth or money form getting in. If anybody breaks anything on that day, dont blame. Instead, tell him,"To break is great for a new year! In chinese way,碎碎平安; Break in Chinese has a has the same sound which means Year. If a child says some bad words, don’t blame ether, it is called “childlike innocence "which in chinese 童言无忌 Don't wear clothes that are in white or black , since they are the traditional colours of mourning, try to pick up a red one instead. Here is a very interesting one: Don't wash your hair for the first three days of the New Year, because the Chinese word for hair sounds like the Chinese word for wealth. Therefore, Chinese believe it isn't a good thing to 'wash away your wealth' right at the start of the New Year. Well, for your own good and how you will look and smell like, I suggest you guys ignore this one. Don't swear or quarrel. Don't say the number 'four' (Chinese homonym for death) or mention death. Don't borrow or lend money since it is consider unlucky for both sides.
