致敬林肯：葛底斯堡演讲

葛底斯堡演讲是美国前总统林肯最著名的演讲，也是美国历史上为人引用最多之演讲。1863年11月19日，林肯在宾夕法尼亚州的葛底斯堡的葛底斯堡国家公墓揭幕式中发表此次演讲，哀悼在长达五个半月的葛底斯堡之役中阵亡的将士。 葛底斯堡演讲，林肯演讲用时不到三分钟。现场见证者回忆，林肯讲完之后，听众普遍认为，“比预期的要短”，而且“现场没有掌声”。当时，谁也没有想到，林肯这篇演讲，像核反应堆一样，在随后的150多年里，爆发出巨大的能量。 其中，被誉为“最伟大演讲”中的金句，就是林肯葛底斯堡演讲的最后一句。of the people, by the people, for the people，翻译成中文，就是民有、民治、民享。在英文之中，of、by、和for，是简短而指向多元的词语。但是，放在the people之前，就显得铿锵有力，语义鲜明。中文翻译，也是超赞。 Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. 八十七年前，我们的先辈们在这个大陆上给我们带来了一个新的共和国，她受孕于自由的理念，并献身于一切人生来平等的理想。 Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced.
