The night Max wore his wolf suit and made mischief of one kind
一天晚上，麦克斯穿上他的狼皮外套，玩起恶作剧，
and another
接连吓到了好几个人。
his mother called him “WILD THING!”
妈妈气得骂他“野兽一样的家伙！”
and Max said“I’LL EAT YOU UP!”
麦克斯却继续淘气：“我要把你吃了！”
so he was sent to bed without eating anything.
结果没吃晚饭就被关进房间。
That very night in Max’s room a forest grew
那一晚，麦克斯的房间里突然长出一片森林。
and grew-
长啊长...
and grew until his ceiling hung with vines, and the walls became the world all around
直到葡萄藤挂满天花板，墙壁与世界的边缘融为一体。
and an ocean tumbled by with a private boat for Max
一艘专为麦克斯准备的小船从海上漂来，
and he sailed off through night and day
他登上船，日以继夜地航行，
and in and out of weeks
一周又一周过去，
and almost over a year
几乎花了一整年，
to where the wild things are.
他终于到达了野兽出没的地方。
And when he came to the place where the wild things are
而当麦克斯到达这里时，
they roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth
野兽们发出恐怖的咆哮，磨着尖利的牙齿，
and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws
瞪大了狰狞的眼睛，伸出了锋利的爪子，
till Max said “BE STILL!” and tamed with the magic trick
直到麦克斯用魔法驯服了他们：“不许动！”
of staring into all their yellow eyes without blinking once
他盯住野兽们黄色的眼睛，一次也不眨。
and they were frightened and called him the most wild thing of all
野兽们都害怕了，把他当作野兽中最厉害的家伙，
and made him king of all wild things.
拥护他为“野兽之王”。
“And now,” cried Max, “let the wild rumpus start!”
“现在，”麦克斯喊道，“让野兽们闹起来吧！”
“Now stop!” Max said and sent the wild things off to bed without their supper.
“停下来！”他又说道，没给野兽们吃晚饭就让它们去睡觉。
And Max the king of all wild things was lonely and wanted to be where someone loved him best of all.
“野兽之王”麦克斯突然觉得有些孤单，想要回到最爱他的人身边。
Then all around from far away across the world he smelled good things to eat
so he gave up being king of where the wild things are.
这时，他从遥远世界的另一端闻到了一阵香味，决定要放弃做这里的王。
But the wild things cried, “Oh please don’t go - we’ll eat you up - we love you so!”
但是野兽们喊道，“哦，千万不要走——我们会吃掉你——我们如此爱你！”
And Max said, “No!”
而麦克斯拒绝道：“不！”
The wild things roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth
野兽们发出恐怖的咆哮，磨着尖利的牙齿，
and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws
瞪大了狰狞的眼睛，伸出了锋利的爪子，
but Max stepped into his private boat and waved good-bye
但是麦克斯还是跑进了他的小船，朝野兽们挥手再见，
and sailed back over a year
小船航行了一年多，
and in and out of weeks
过了一个星期又一个星期，
and through a day
经过一个白天，
and into the night of his very own room
他终于回到那个夜晚，回到自己的房间。
where he found his supper waiting for him
他发现那里有为他准备的晚饭，
and it was still hot.
而且饭还是热的。
