You’ll think it harsh of me to say so, but no explanation I offer will satisfy you.
你也许会觉得我这么说很残酷，但我给不了你一个满意的答复。
Please don’t be angry when I tell you that you seek resolutions and explanations because you’re young, but you will understand this one day.
你还年轻，因此寻求解决问题的方法或是解释——不要生气，终有一天你会明白这点。
And when it happens…I want you to imagine me there to greet you.
当那天到来时，我要你想象我在那儿迎接你。
Our lives stretched out ahead of us, a perpetual sunrise.
我们的未来将如旭日般永恒。
But until then, there must be no contact between us.
但在此前，我们之间绝不能有任何联络。
I have much to do, and you, my darling, even more.
我有很多事情要处理，而你，我的宝贝，更是如此。
Please believe that I would do anything to see you happy.

从信的内容上看，言简意赅，而措辞婉转——短短几行包含了以下几层意思：
1.我老公派人成功窃听我们的恋情不是你的错（特瑞丝觉得是因为自己跟男侦探搭话和提议订总统套房才导致了被窃听）；所以卡罗尔说“There are no accidents, and he would’ve found us one way or another. ”；
2.主要意思是“我们之间要完了”，但行文却没有“结束”，且字里行间透露着对离别的不舍和对未来的渴望；
3.我对不起你；
4.不要难过；
5.我不得不离开你去处理家事（这是卡罗尔的explanation，正如她所言，特瑞丝并不能接受这个explanation，她会去寻求两全的resolution，但卡罗尔很清楚没有）；
6.再不要联系我（讲得很隐晦）。
从剧情的结构上看，卡罗尔这封信中的措辞与前文统一：
1.这封信是以过来人的口吻写的：还记得卡罗尔第一次见到特瑞丝时喃喃自语“You are a strange girl, flung out of space”——对于卡罗尔而言，特瑞丝就像年轻时候的自己，也就不难理解这句“Please don’t be angry when I tell you that you seek resolutions and explanations because you’re young, but you will understand this one day. ”。
2.语气柔和中透出坚定：卡罗尔此时正面临着人生中的最低谷——她将要忍痛和挚爱别离，独自去与丈夫争夺女儿的抚养权，但信中只是提到了“I have much to do”。这和之前特瑞丝发现卡罗尔行李中藏枪，问卡罗尔“Do you feel safe with me”时卡罗尔的反应“You are full of surprises”是一致的：卡罗尔在这段恋情中更多地扮演了给予者的角色，她爱特瑞丝，把自己的不安和恐惧都深埋在心底，不希望特瑞丝为自己担心。
