jaw 颚 Have you seen the American film jaws？ In the film the shark eats a few people alive while they are bathing in the sea. It is finally killed by three courageous men. The name of the film jaws refers, of course, to the strong and enormous jaws of the shark. The word here is plural. This is because sharks, like many other animals，have the upper jaw and the lower jaw. We can use the word figuratively and say ，“The lifeguard saved the child from the jaws of death. ”A strong square jaw is a sign of firm character.
