介绍:
The Beijing People's Art Theater has brought a play by China's late literary legend Cao Yu's classic work "The Wilderness" to Singapore over the weekend. Featuring a succession of murders and stories of revenge set in a forest, the play enjoyed less success than Cao's previous works after being released in 1980 as critics at the time were not pleased with the work's supernatural and fantastical elements. Though regarded as the most complicated and controversial work by China's greatest 20th-Century playwright, "The Wilderness" is proving to be a big hit with locals. Chen Xinyi, director of the play, says the profound insight into human nature makes "The Wilderness" one of Cao's most accessible works for modern audiences. "The Wilderness has a modern side, with human emotions laid bare, love, and woe. It's a direct and upfront confrontation with humanity." Within this play, Cao started to dabble in expressionism and symbolism instead of social realism that had dominated his earlier works such as "Thunderstorm" and "Sunrise". Cast of the play include Chinese veteran actors Hu Jun and Pu Cunxin, as well as actress Xv Fan.
