1. attentive – listening or watching carefully and with interest; helpful, making sure that people have what they need.
Example:
Ministers should be more attentive to the needs of families. 部长们应该更加关怀家庭的需要。
The hotel staff are friendly and attentive. 旅馆人员友好而且照顾周到。
2. commonality – used to refer to feature or purpose that is shared by two or more people or things.
Example:
We don’t have the same commonality of interest. 我们没有共同的兴趣。
3. empowerment – the empowerment of a person or group of people is the process of giving them power and status in a particular situation.
Example:
The college is empowered to grant degrees. 这所学院有权授予学位。
4. evaluation – if you evaluate sth or someone, you consider them in order to make a judgment about them, for example about how good or how bad they are.
Example:
The market situation is difficult to evaluate. 市场状况难以评价。

5. exceed – if something exceeds a particular amount or number, it is greater or larger than that amount or number. If you exceed a limit or rule, you go beyond it, even though you are not supposed to or it is against the law.
Example:
Its research budget exceeds $700 million a year. 其研究预算每年超过7亿美元。
He accepts he was exceeding the speed limit. 他承认自己超速了。
6. expectation – your expectation are your strong hopes or beliefs that something will happen or that you will get something that you want.
Example:
Contrary to expectations, interest rates did not rise. 出乎意料的是利率并未上升。
Some parents have unrealistic expectations of their children. 有的父母对孩子的指望不切实际。
7 promise – verb / noun, to tell sb that you will definitely do or not do sth, or that sth will definitely happen.
Example:
The college principal promised to look into the matter. 学院院长答应研究这个问题。
They arrived at 7.30 as they had promised. 他们按说定的7.30到达了。
8. replace – to be used instead of sth / sb else; to do sth instead of sb / sth else.
Example:
The new design will eventually replace all existing models. 新的设计最终将会取代所有现在的型号。
All the old carpets need replacing. 所有的就地毯都需要更换。
It is not a good idea to miss meals and replace them with snacks. 不吃正餐,改吃点心,这不是什么好主意。
9. straightaway – at one, immediately.
Example:
Let’s start work straightaway. 咱们立刻开始工作吧。
10. carry out –
Example:
A survey is now being carried out nationwide. 正在进行一次全国性的普查。
11. look into – try to find out the truth about a problem, crime, etc. in order to solve it.
Example:
Police are looking into the disappearance of two children. 警察正在调查两个孩子失踪的事。
