Hey, guys. I am Debbie. Thank you for listening in to my podcast. This is my seventh episode. Last time I shared my sunset watching playlist and the last song was “You Are In Love” by Taylor Swift. This song is definitely my favorite in her last album “1989”. When “1989” came out, songs like “Shake it Off” and “Blank Space” became instant hits while “You Are In Love” was less known to the public. Don’t get me wrong. Of course I love “Shake it Off” and Blank Space” and other songs in this album but “You Are in Love” is absolutely the one that makes my heart skip a beat every time I listen to it.
“You Are in Love” is a song Taylor wrote for her good friend Jack and his wife Lena as their wedding song. Taylor shared her idea of this song and how she felt about the song in an interview and below are things that she said.
"The song &`&You Are In Love&`& is one that I did with Jack. And it&`&s strange, because he sent me the track and I end up writing these lyrics that very much mirrored what his relationship with his girlfriend and my best friend looked like to me. And the song is kind of told as if I&`&m looking at their story through a window or something. This Album is NOT heavily based on romance and love. Because that hasn&`&t been a huge part of my life, but my friends have been a huge part of my life. And watch my friends fall in love and find meaningful relationship has been one of most moving experiences. SO this song is all about what it&`&s like when you really do find real love. We are not talking about , like, the chase. We are not talking about a phase you go through or a fling, this is what it’s like when you find real true love and to me this song is how that feeling sounds. "

I personally like the lyrics so much and here I want to share some of my personal views about some lyrics in this song. Taylor describes some daily scenes between couples such as “Buttons on a coat, lighthearted joke. No proof, not much But you saw enough. Small talk, he drives. Coffee at midnight. The light reflects the chain on your neck. He says look up. And your shoulders brush. No proof, one touch. But you felt enough. Isn’t it so true that we feel the love through those nameless moments that we care for each other? No fancy words, just plain description of numerous trivial details how couples treat each other in their daily lives. My favorite line from the lyrics is the one she describes as

Through these lyrics, I can totally imagine that I already have this imaginary boyfriend. And I am at his place on a beautiful Sunday morning. And he is making me some burnt toast. I always keep his shirt in our room and he always keeps his word. This is always the kind of relationship I am looking for. A man that can keep his word and I’ll just be a good girlfriend who can keep all his shirts. With that kind of person, I can finally let go of my fears, my ghosts and my insecurities. Also, there is a saying in English that you have to become best friends before you become best lovers. And that’s why in this song, Taylor wrote that the guy in the song woke up in the middle of the night and looked at the girl who’s next to him. He paused and said, “you are my best friend” to her. And that’s the moment I knew that guy’s definitely in love. Because when you are in love with someone, when there is no lights, no sounds, no distractions from the outside world, you can finally listen to your own voice deep down from your heart. You can hear it in the silence. You can feel it on the way home. You could see it with the lights out. And when you see the true love, you will understand now why all those people lost their minds and fought the wars seeking for true love. And why Taylor spent her whole life trying to put it into words.
9 years ago, Taylor wrote a song about love, which is called fearless. That’s another song that vividly describes the feelings when we had our first love.

When we were young, we got nervous about our first date, our first kiss, and our first love. But somehow, you were so caught up on that person and those things you used to fear never frightened you anymore when you were with that person.
Love always seems like this huge complicated thing to me. But it seems like every once in a while, two people get it figured out. Two people get it right. So I think the rest of us. We walk around daydreaming about what that might be like. To find one great love where all of a sudden everything used to seem so complicated will become simple. And everything that used to seem wrong, all of a sudden will seem right when you are with the person who made you feel fearless.
The third song is called “Mine” also written by Taylor. And this song tells a story how two people find a way to be together after going through every little bump in their lives. I will be telling the story of this song in the next episode. Thank you again for listening and I will see you soon.
