St Paul’s Cathedral
St Paul's Cathedral, London, is an Anglican（英国国教的） cathedral, the seat of the Bishop of London（伦敦主教）and the mother church（母教会）of the Diocese of London（主教教区）. It sits on Ludgate Hill（路德门山街）at the highest point of the City of London and is a Grade 1 listed building. The present cathedral, dating from the late 17th century, was designed in the English Baroque（巴洛克风格）style by Sir Christopher Wren（克里斯多佛·雷恩）. Its construction, completed in Wren's lifetime, was part of a major rebuilding programme in the City after the Great Fire of London（伦敦大火）.
The cathedral is one of the most famous and most recognizable（可辨认的）sights of London. Its dome（圆屋顶）, framed（框架，结构）by the spires（尖顶）of Wren's City churches, dominated（控制，支配） the skyline（地平线）for 300 years. At 365 feet (111 m) high, it was the tallest building in London from 1710 to 1967. The dome is among the highest in the world. St Paul's is the second-largest church building in area in the United Kingdom after Liverpool Cathedral（利物浦大教堂）.
St Paul's Cathedral occupies（占据）a significant place in the national identity. It is the central subject of much promotional（增进的，奖励的）material, as well as of images of the dome surrounded by the smoke and fire of the Blitz（闪电战）. Services held at St Paul's have included the funerals（葬礼）of Lord Nelson（纳尔逊勋爵）, the Duke of Wellington（威灵顿公爵）, Sir Winston Churchill（温斯顿 丘吉尔）and Margaret Thatcher（玛格丽特·撒切尔）; jubilee（五十年节）celebrations for Queen Victoria（维多利亚女王）; peace services marking the end of the First and Second World Wars; the wedding of Charles, Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer（黛安娜 斯宾塞）; the launch of the Festival of Britain; and the thanksgiving services for the Silver（25年纪念日）, Golden（50年纪念日） and Diamond（60或75周年） Jubilees and the 80th and 90th birthdays of Elizabeth II.
St Paul's Cathedral is a working church with hourly prayer and daily services. The tourist entry fee at the door is £18 for adults (March 2017, cheaper online), but no charge is made to worshippers（礼拜者）.
