A Smarter Robotic Dog

Sony’s robotic dog Aibo is back, and is much smarter. The reborn Aibo behaves like a puppy using artificial intelligence (AI) to learn and interact with its owner and surroundings. It dances to music, walks around with ease, and shakes its head and tail naturally like a real dog. It can do fun tricks like finding a ball or a bone, lying down and giving a handshake. Now Aibo understands English and Japanese, but more languages are coming soon. With the latest sensing and AI technologies, Aibo can run towards you, notice smiles and words of praise, and remember what actions please you. The little puppy can also recognize people, and learn up to 100 faces. If in your house you pet your Aibo the most, it will interact with you the most. Over time, you will gradually shape its personality. So Aibo has its unique personality as it keeps on studying and growing. Aibo recognizes a number of different commands, such as sit, stay and come. You can tell your Aibo to “go to the kitchen” and it’s able to detect obstacles, and even figure out the shortest distance to the destination. The first Aibo, short for artificial intelligence robot, was born in 1999. At first, the robotic dog was very popular. However, financial troubles ended the production of Aibo in 2006. But now, the popular pet is making a comeback.
