180817 The Chinese 24 solar terms

While the rest of the world rotates among four seasons, Chinese are going through 24 periods every year. They divide each season into six periods, which means a year is specified more clearly in terms of weather changes. For instance, the onset of winter is differentiated from the mid-winter as each period has distinctive temperatures and snowfall intensity. Around 2,500 years ago, Chinese people determined 24 sections in the ecliptic, Earth’s revolution orbit. Each section is called a solar term and represents a unique period of a year. The 24 Solar Terms were originally worked out mainly for farming. In the early December of 2016, the 24 Solar Terms were inscribed onto the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. 当世界上其他地方都在按照一年四季轮转时，中国人却在体验着一年24个节气。他们把每个季节分作6个时间段，也就是说按照气候变化将一年划分得更精细。比如，初冬不同于仲冬，因为每个时间段都有自己独特的气温和降雪量。 大约2500年前，中国人在地球的公转轨道——黄道上划分了24块。每一块被称为一个节气，代表了一年里的一个独特时期。人们一开始制定出二十四节气主要是为了农作。2016年12月初，中国“二十四节气”被正式列入（联合国教科文组织）人类非物质文化遗产代表作名录。
