verdant grass growing along the riverside.
Wu dialect rings in the air,
sweet nothings of a tipsy couple with temples white.
The eldest son is working the eastern bean fields,
the middle son weaving the chicken coop.
The cosseted youngest lounges at creekhead,
nary a care; into the lotus pods he pries.
