Lantern Festival - from the Chinese style of romance 元宵节——源于中国式的浪漫 The Lantern Festival, also known as the Shangyuan Festival, is one of the traditional Chinese festivals,on the 15th day of the first month of the Chinese lunar calendar.元宵节，又称上元节，是中国的传统节日之一，为每年农历正月十五。 The 15th day of the frst lunar month is the first full moon of the year, so the 15th day of the first lunar month is called the "LanternFestival". 正月是农历的元月，古人称“夜”为 “宵”，正月十五是一年中第一个月圆之夜，所以称正月十五为“元宵节”。 The Lantern Festival features a series of traditional activities such as appreciating lanterns, eating sweet dumplings and guessing lantern riddles.元宵节主要有赏花灯、吃汤圆、猜灯谜等一系列传统民俗活动。 In June 2008, the Lantern Festival was selected into the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage.2008年6月，元宵节选入第二批国家级非物质文化遗产。 Custom习俗 1.Eating sweet dumplings 吃汤圆 Eating sweet dumplings is one of the special traditions of the Lantern Festival. Sweet dumplings is a small flour ball made of glutinous rice flour with rose petals, sesame, bean paste, jujube paste, walnut meat, dried fruit, sugar and edible oil as filling. Sweet dumplings have been a symbol of happiness and unity. On this day, people eat sweet dumplings for goodluck.吃汤圆是元宵节特别传统之一。汤圆是用糯米粉做皮，由玫瑰花瓣、芝麻、豆酱、枣泥、胡桃肉、干果、糖和食用油做馅，做成的小面球团。汤圆象征着幸福和团圆。这一天，人们吃汤圆祈求好运。 2.Appreciating lanterns赏花灯 Another custom for the Lantern Festival is to appreciatinglanterns on the 15th day of the first lunar month.In ancient times, the Lantern Festival was known as China's Valentine's Day. On this day, lovers would meet to admire lanterns, exchange tokens of love and show their love to each other. Today, though more than a thousand years have passed, the custom of making a date to admire lanterns still exists.正月十五赏花灯是元宵节必有的另一项习俗。在古代，元宵节可称为中国的情人节。在这一天，有情人会相约赏灯，交换定情信物，互表爱意。如今，虽然已经过去了一千多年，但元宵约佳人赏灯的习俗依旧存在。 3.Guessing the Lantern Riddle 猜灯谜 Part of the Lantern Festival tradition involves a game to guess riddles attached to the lanterns. The Lantern Riddle is a special word-game played by the Chinese people.Lantern owners write riddles on slips of paper and post them on the lanterns.On the lantern Festival, many people will carry colorful lanterns and attend the riddle-guessing contests.元宵节传统习俗中还有一部分是关于猜灯谜的游戏。猜灯谜是中国特有的文字游戏。灯笼的主人把谜面写在纸条上，然后把纸条贴在灯笼上。元宵节时，很多人会提灯笼，去参加猜灯谜大会。
