Actor Jason Bateman has left his comedic comfort zone for his first ever thriller.
First time director Joel Edgerton hired Bateman as he knew the "Horrible Bosses" actor could make the transition from light to dark.

"I felt very sorry for Jason. I feel like he's not working very much and he needed a bit of a helping hand. No, look, I love when actors that are generally known as being funny people take a walk down that dramatic path. It's often been a very successful transition and a surprising one and, as a filmmaker, I thought that was kind of exciting. But Jason has all the right acting chops that I've seen in other movies enough to know that he was going to not only do a good job of it but he was going to do a more than great job and he's proven that to me."

"I'm very again grateful for the invite. It's not something that I'm known for, but it kind of works for the character I guess a little bit. You could talk to Joel about it, but it's important that I start as the guy that you're kind of used to seeing me play and then he goes through some challenging things. I don't want to ruin anything for you but apparently I was a good fit."
In the movie, Simon, played by Bateman, and Robyn are a young married couple whose life is going just as planned until a chance encounter with an acquaintance of Simon's from high school sends their world into a tailspin. Simon does not recognize Gordo at first, but after a series of uninvited encounters and mysterious gifts prove troubling, a terrible secret from their past is uncovered. As Robyn learns the truth about what happened between Simon and Gordo, she begins questioning how well she really knows her husband.
British actress Rebecca Hall plays Bateman's wife. She believes her co-star held his own pretty well.

I think to be a great comedian you are probably a great actor because you commit to the joke in the same way that you commit to a piece of drama and he is sort of unscathing in his commitment to making something credible which is what makes him a great actor."
