Thank you! thank you Rockets fans. There are so many thanks I want to send— to rockets, to city of Houston, to community, to Les, who brought this together. Thank you for building this team and the community. Thank you very much!
First of all, you know, it&`&s during Chinese new year. I wish everybody a happy new year.万事如意，which means make your wishes come true.
but while i walking in this room, i saw the numbers up there and i know my first wish in my year is already gone because I wish i get a 10 days contract. But at this moment, i can&`&t help myself but thinking back my first met Rockets back to 1994, when NBA first time broadcasting in China. That&`&s when great "Dream" brought the championship cup back to Houston for the first time.
I know, I know, many of you, or some of you today at here witnessed that moment. But just remember there was a kid over 10 thousand miles away saw that toward a TV. That&`&s where my dream started. Thank you for the memory.
Thanks to my coaches, Rude T, Jeff Van Gundy and Rick Adelman. Their effort and their trust on me make me believe that come to Houston is my destination and every time when we are ready for the game at that tunnel, ready for getting to the court, out there, there are so many unknowings--- maybe a victory, maybe a lost, maybe a career-high, maybe a career-ending, but no one doubt that we were running out there fight for this city. Not only because we have the greatest teammates around us but also we have great fans here.
We are a very passional and young team 10 yrs ago. I believe Dikembe Mutombo will agree that. Back then I was chasing Steve Francis and Cattino Mobley in a transition, just like there were two Mini tanks dragging a huge Boeing 777 plane on the airport.
And after that T-MAC came to town and joined us. Thank you for being here. you know there are so many unknowings there but just remember to give the ball to him when there are just 35 sec left. But you know what I told my neighbor after that night when I drove home. Because he turned off the TV a minute before the game was over. I told him that T-MAC and I scored 15 points in last minute to turn the game around.
Back to the locker room, Shane Battier always had us to bet on March Madness. And you know, i&`&m not from NCAA and I don&`&t know much about it. But luckily, I&`&ve never won "what the hell I&`&m thinking" award. I just simply copied Mr. President&`&s answers from the TV. I mean the last one not this one. I don&`&t how this one is doing here.
When I just came to the town, Houston for me is no different than any other city in the United States. But as time passed by, all the faces come to my memory. Friends, teammates, coaches, staff, medias, and most important, fans. The fans like Mr and Mrs. Soyle family right there. The support for the Rockets for over decades. Thank you!(感谢几十年如一日的支持)
Remember this, Houston from now on for me is not simply a word but every time when they mention it, your faces were in my memory, in my brain. I would like to share a story with everybody to control my speech. That’s at my rookie season. About same time during the year, that&`&s the first Chinese new year for me and my family spent overseas outside my country. Well, I was tripped to a locker room in Compaq Center. All my teammates, CD, and all my coaching staff were waiting here, Steve, you were there too, that wish me a happy new year. Everyone of those, and gave me those red envelopes that had a little bit money in there according to our tradition in China. thanks for doing that to make me home over there that year. But I checked the envelop and there was only a two-dollar in there. So I talked to CD, I said: ”you really should put at least ten in there instead of two.” And then CD come back to me and said: “you know we have a salary cap, right?”
I still have one of those two-dollar bills in my pocket and i carried it since then. Because I know wherever I go, or how far I go, as long as that bill is in my pocket, home is with me. Thank you. Thank you for the journey! Thank you!
