Today’s special for Harry Potter.
Deathly Hallows 死亡圣器 ， There are 3 magical and power objects, the Elder Wand, Resurrection Stone and Cloak of Invisibility, all together, they are called the Deathly Hallows. Once someone possesses these 3 objects, he or she will surely become the master of death.
死亡圣器共包含三件物品物品： Elder wand 长老魔杖， Resurrection Stone 还魂石，Cloak of Invisibility 隐形斗篷。
Deathly Hallows were not specifically mentioned in the previous episodes until the 7th movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. A story set all the background of the origins of these 3 magical objects. The Story of 3 brothers. 三兄弟的故事
Now let’s listen to a short clip of the story- By Hermione Granger.
There were once 3 brothers who were travelling along a lonely, winding road, at twilight.
lonely a. 偏远的 winding a. wind- v. 蜿蜒前进 ， winding-形容词
In time, the brothers reached a river too treacherous to pass.
In time 当时，reach v. 到达 too…to 太… 而不能 treacherous a.奸诈的，危险的， 此处可以用dangerous来代替。
But being learned in the magical arts, the 3 brothers simply waved their wands and built a bridge.
Being learned 表示一种状态，富学了。。。, magical arts 魔法 wave the wand –means using the spells.
Before they could cross however, they found their path blocked by a hooded figure.
Path n. 小路，路径 blocked 被挡住了， block v. 阻挡，阻拦 hooded figure 戴帽子的人， hood n. 帽子 - 绿箭侠
It was death, and he felt cheated. Cheated because travelers would normally drown in the river.
Cheated 被骗了， cheat v. 欺骗 normally=usually drown v. 溺水，淹死
But Death was cunning. He pretended to congratulate the three brothers on their magic, and said that each had earned a prize for having been clever enough to evade him.
Cunning a. 狡猾的 pretended v. 假装，装作 congratulate v. 恭喜 - on sth.
Earn a prize 赢得奖赏 evade v. 躲避，逃避
The oldest brother asked for a wand more powerful than any in existence. So Death fashioned him one from an elder tree that stood nearby.
Ask for 索要 in existence 存在的 - exist fashion v. 变。。。什么， 把。。。做成。。。形状 elder tree 老树
“‘Then the second brother decided he wanted to humiliate Death even further, and asked for the power to recall loved ones from the grave.
Humiliate v. 羞辱 recall v. 召回，回忆 loved ones 亲爱的人 grave n. 坟墓
So Death plucked a stone from the river and offered it to him.
Pluck v. 拔出， 捞起 offer v. 提供给， 送给
Finally death turned to the third brother. A humble man, he asked for something that would allow him to go forth from that place without being followed by Death.
Allow… to do 允许某人做某事 go forth 离开=leave without being followed by death 而不被死神所追踪
And so it was that Death reluctantly handed over his own Cloak of Invisibility.
Reluctantly ad. 不情愿的 hand over v. 交出
